Charlbury Museum is delighted to announce that it has been awarded official UK Museum Accreditation by Arts Council England. The Museum Accreditation Scheme provides a nationally recognised framework for museums to show that they are well managed, care for collections responsibly, and provide meaningful experiences for visitors. It also encourages confidence among funders by demonstrating a commitment to professional standards and continuous improvement and will put the museum in a stronger position when applying for grants and outside funding.
Being awarded accreditation is a vote of confidence in Charlbury Museum & Heritage Centre. It provides an exciting opportunity to expand and professionalise the museum’s work. The museum’s aim is to ensure that Charlbury’s history, stories and collections remain card for, accessible and relevant to the community. By investing in the museum’s future we can create a stronger cultural and education resource for the town, encourage greater participation and help preserve Charlbury’s heritage for generations to come.
Gaining accreditation required a huge amount of work over the last three years by museum volunteers, stewards and supporters in Charlbury. The trustees are enormously grateful for all the hard work which so many people have put in to achieve this landmark award.
