The museum reopened on Saturday 16th April, Easter Saturday.  We were delighted to welcome visitors back on a lovely sunny weekend.

Our special exhibition this year links with the celebrations taking place in June to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  We have brought together photographs, objects and memories which show how Charlbury celebrated the Queen’s accession in 1952 and her coronation in 1953.  A big feature was a parade through the street with adults and children showing great imagination in their costumes.

Keep a special eye out for the man dressed as Sir Edmund Hillary!

His conquest of Everest was announced on Coronation Day.

Please join us and revive memories of the coronation and also of what Charlbury was like in the 1950s with its many shops and thriving businesses.

We will still be taking some Covid precautions.  Please wear a mask if at all possible to protect our stewards.  Hand sanitizer will be available and we will increase ventilation as much as possible.
